Cornhole PLAY-IN-GAME Explained
For the HBA Cornhole Tournament, A Play-In-Game is at the beginning of a tournament where the “lowest qualifiers” are forced to play each other before the main tournament begins. EXAMPLE: In a 32 team bracket, this would be any team that does not fit into the initial field of 32.
The lowest Qualifiers for the HBA Cornhole Tournament would be teams that sign up after July 2nd or the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th team signed up under the same company. The more teams you enter, the more likely two or three of your companies will have to participate in the play-in-game.
Drawbacks of a Play-In-Game – The downside to a play-in-game is that the loser is done for the tournament (unless the tournament host/sponsor determines an alternate plan). In addition, those companies with multiple teams will have to face their own company early in the competition.
Advantages of a Play-In-Game – The winner will play in the regular bracket play, and if they lose, they have a chance to play in the “Losers Bracket” to fight for the honor of “best of the worst.”
The winner of the Play-In-Game has an opportunity to warm up to the main bracket play and has a chance of playing more games in the end.
NOTE: Player switching not allowed unless approved by the host/sponsor and HBA.
