News-Leader’s “‘Tis a Privilege” Applauds HBA’s Fire Safety Commitment

HBA members carry 400 smoke alarms inside while KOLR-10 captures the action.

To recognize and honor the exemplary, the Springfield News-Leader periodically runs an editorial feature the newspaper calls ‘Tis A Privilege. The point of the feature is to point out good news in the Ozarks and to publicly recognize and thank those responsible for it.

Last week, the ‘Tis a Privilege feature highlighted, among other good news, the HBA of Greater Springfield’s recent donation of 400 smoke alarms to the Springfield Fire Department. Following is an excerpt from the editorial column:

‘Tis a privilege to thank the Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield for their support of efforts to reduce deaths from fires.

The HBA gave 400 home smoke alarms to the Springfield Fire Department, in support of the department’s “Year of the Smoke Alarm” campaign.

Firefighters have installed more than 440 alarms since January, according to Fire Chief David Hall.

City residents may call 864-1500 to have a smoke alarm installed free in their home, or for a new 9-volt battery to keep the alarm operating. Alarms for the hearing impaired also are available.
