The HBA of Missouri’s Legislative Day is scheduled for Tuesday, February 23 in Jefferson City. Again this year, transportation will be provided by bus to Jefferson City thanks to the sponsors who support this event which is complimentary for HBA builder, remodeler and developer members. We will depart in the morning, spend the day at the Capitol talking with our Senators and Representatives about issues that affect our industry, and return to Springfield in the evening (somewhat earlier than in past years as there will not be an evening reception this year.)
LAST YEAR’S TRIP WAS A SUCCESS
Such a large group of you meeting with House Speaker Ron Richard and other Senators/Representatives about the Fire Sprinkler issue started a process that helped us finally craft the legislation making it impossible for any jurisdiction in Missouri
THERE ARE MANY CHALLENGES IN 2010 – WE NEED YOUR VOICES TO BE HEARD BY OUR LAWMAKERS
- -There is a strong push for statewide residential building/energy codes this year. A state environmental group, successful in getting both legislation and ballot initiatives passed, is pushing hard for the legislature to pass the residential energy building code statewide. Doing so may qualify the state for a large amount of federal money and so this may receive more serious consideration than similar efforts in the past.
- -With lackluster sales tax revenue and unfunded mandates from the federal government, many legislators are looking to new fees/taxes to generate revenue. There is heightened interest in many forms of impact fees, real estate transfer taxes and recording fees.
