Habitat for Humanity & Volunteers Work Together To Build Local Home

Habitat for Humanity of Springfield, Missouri (HFHS) and local volunteers will work side-by-side with a Habitat partner family to rehab their home in Springfield’s Zone 1. This home renovation continues the nonprofit organization’s efforts to create safe, decent, and affordable housing in partnership with low-income families in the Springfield area.

Bank of America donated the land as part of a national partnership with Habitat for Humanity International through which it donates vacant or abandoned properties for renovation or reconstruction. Local Bank of America volunteers joined the effort on Saturday, March 26, 2016 to help build the home and provide support for this event. The home being built is for the Key Family located at 2121 W. Olive St., Springfield, MO 65802.

“It’s crucial to have community partners like the Bank of America to expand our mission of eliminating poverty housing in the Ozarks,” said Larry Peterson, executive director of HFHS. “Not only has this group provided the land for a future HFHS homeowner, they are swinging hammers and hanging drywall to complete the build.”

Bank of America has partnered with Habitat for Humanity International and local affiliates for more than 25 years to support neighborhood revitalization, investing more than $26 million in philanthropic support since 2002.

“We’re pleased to partner with Habitat to help make the dream of homeownership a reality for this family,” said Jackie Yoon, St. Louis market president, Bank of America. “Through this partnership and our property donations program, it is our goal to create stability for more families, and help revitalize neighborhoods and local communities”.
