Whether you want to dream, plan, improve or build – the HBA’s 2011 Home Show has everything to inspire your home improvement or building project – all under one roof. Attendees of the 2011 HBA Home Show (which runs from Friday, January 28 through Sunday, January 30) will have an opportunity to browse more than 400 elaborate display booths and visit with more than 220 exhibitors at the Springfield Expo Center. Cost of admission is $6 (attendees who bring a can of food to donate to charity will receive $1 off admission). Children under 12 are admitted free.

Show times:

-Friday, January 28 – Noon to 8 pm
-Saturday, January 29 – 10 am to 8 pm
-Sunday, January 30 – 11 am to 5 pm

The annual event acts as something of a barometer for how the residential construction industry can be expected to perform in the year ahead. In 2011, residential remodeling remains a healthy sector of the local economy. And, 2010 saw a 16% increase in new home starts in the Ozarks over 2009 – the first year-over-year increase in new homebuilding since 2005. And organizers expect the trend to continue.

“After spending most of 2009 doing the hard work of clearing what was an overbuilt inventory, housing starts in our area turned upward in 2010 for the first time in years,” said Matt Morrow, CEO of the HBA of Greater Springfield. “In fact, a number of market segments, price points and locations in the area now are experiencing serious shortages of in-demand new housing.”

And it is no blip on the radar. Morrow elaborates on what to expect in home building in 2011 in a post this week to his HBA CEO blog (found on SpringfieldHBA.com). The HBA is forecasting a gradual, multi-year recovery of the local residential construction sector to continue in 2011. Housing starts in 2011 should exceed those built in 2010 by approximately another 15%. That makes it a great time for consumers to dust off those plans to build, buy or remodel – and there’s no better place to kick things off than at the Home Show.

“This is a real ‘hands-on’ way for people to experience the outstanding craftsmanship, products and resources that are available for their specific home remodeling or building project,” Morrow says. “You meet the actual home professionals and you can ask questions, look at plans, talk about financing options and connect with experts for up-to-date information about trends in home design and improvement.”
